One of my favorite hymns, "How Great Thou Art" also tells us about the beauty of God's creation:
How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
I remember walking through the woods recently and singing "How Great Thou Art." What a wonderful inspirational song! It declares the love of God and the gift of creation! Yes, we have been given the responsibility of overseeing our wonderful environment. So how are we doing?
We know for a fact that we have not been doing the best job at managing the created order and the precious environment. Vice President Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize winning An Inconvenient Truth drives this point home poignantly.
Former Vice President Al Gore shares his concerns on the pressing issue of global warming in this documentary. A long-time environmental activist, Gore first became aware of global warming in the 1970s, and since leaving public office, he has become a passionate advocate for large- and small-scale changes in our laws and lifestyles that could help alleviate this crisis. An Inconvenient Truth records a multimedia presentation hosted by Gore, in which he discusses the scientific facts behind global warming, explains its impact on the environment, talks about the disastrous consequences if the world's governments and citizens do not act, and shares what each individual can do to help protect the earth.
According to some projections on rising ocean levels, I might be snorkeling in my living room here in Jupiter, Florida , in less than half a century. My home is located less than a mile from the beach and even closer to the Intercoastal Waterway! Get out the snorkeling gear! That is a very inconvenient truth!
Former Vice President Gore's documentary underscores the importance of thinking and acting locally and globally on the environment. Just as we have a global economy, we also have a global environment. We live on spaceship earth, and each of us has a responsibility to be excellent stewards of the environment which God created.
How are you doing?
